Visit to the P.G. Smidovich State Nature Reserve

This corner of untouched nature with an area of 32,142 hectares is located in the extreme northwest of Mordovia, 10 km from Temnikov and is a continuation of a large forest area located in the Nizhny Novgorod region. The reserve is one of the oldest in Russia. It was organized in March 1936 to preserve and study the unique array of pine-deciduous Murom forests. The territory of the reserve is a typical forest area. Pine forests predominate here, occupying 60% of the entire forest area. Occasionally you can find some huge pine trees reaching a height of more than 40 m. There are 372 annual layers on the stump of one of these plant "patriarchs". The reserve offers visitors excursion programs, services of the Nature Museum, the Pavlovsky and Inorsky cordons, ecological trails "Acquaintance with the reserve" and "Animal observation". The territory is protected, its visit is strictly regulated.
